Week 1

Jan 1:       Genesis 1-2 – Two Creation Stories

Genesis 1:1-2:4 – a poetic account of creation (notice the parallelism)
days 1-3 creation of earth and skies
         days 4-6 inhabitation of earth
Genesis 2:5-25 – a narrative account of creation

Ponder the 3 Disciple Bible Study questions as you read today…
What does this tell us about God?
for example – God brings order out of chaos, provides abundantly for human needs
What does this tell us about human beings?
for example – God entrusts Adam with responsibility of naming animals, intends for men and women to be partners in life
What does this tell us about the relationship between God and humans?
for example – God desires a relationship with humans

Jan 2:      Genesis 3-5 – Life with Adam and Eve
Again use the 3 Disciple Bible Study questions as you read today…
What does this tell us about God?
for example – even as God holds us accountable God provides for our needs
What does this tell us about human beings?
for example – we are “prone to wander” away from God
What does this tell us about the relationship between God and humans?
for example – despite our sinfulness, God does not abandon us

Jan 3:    Genesis 6-9 – Noah and the Ark
Pause and consider what we’ve already read in Genesis. In the reading today, God brings a new beginning for creation. We see that God creates, blesses, judges and re-creates. What expectations does God have of humans?  In Christ there was another new beginning. Now what are God’s expectations of us?
